Drawing with Awareness: Drawing, Mindfulness and Meditation

Next workshop - DRAWING BY CANDLELIGHT – Saturday 18 January 3-9pm

(cost £80 including supper and materials) at Rackham Village Hall, near Pulborough, West Sussex RH20 2EU

- large scale drawing in candlelight, working with meditation, memory, body, breath and gesture – inspired by cave drawing and nature - Drawing in the dark, or by candlelight only, can be a very exciting, liberating experience. This workshop will allow you to be totally immersed in the collective experience of working in this evocative space. Using meditation and other mindfulness exercises to get you warmed up, we may go outside to get our inspiration, or simply use our senses and memory, to start drawing on large rolls of paper as the light fades. We will end the evening with a shared meal – I will provide simple soup and bread, and invite you all to bring something else to share

One of a series of one day retreat style workshop, combining my interest in mindfulness and meditation with the creative process. In these workshops you will be invited to draw with your eyes shut, respond to the breath, draw by touch, and listen to your materials. Engaging in the process rather than the product, you can expect to come away feeling relaxed, awakened, and revitalised in your approach to drawing.

All materials will be provided (basic drawing materials, pens, pencils, charcoal etc, as well as paper).

Numbers will be kept to a maximum of 8 to ensure space for this kind of work

Drawing for All - Experimental Life Drawing – Shoreham

new course suitable for all comers. As an introduction to drawing, or a refresher for those with experience, all the sessions are based partly on observation, giving you the skills for improving your ‘eye’. Alongside this, there will be room for experimentation and appreciating that drawings can emerge out of sometimes quite ‘messy’ starting points. This is to help get over the fear of the blank page, the fear that you may ‘go wrong’ – there is no such thing as a wrong drawing: a drawing is a drawing, a line is a line, a mark is a mark.
Each one will be a stand alone session, however they are designed to flow from one to the other, to give you a broad base for developing your drawing skills over the term. This term will be working from the figure - using an expressive rather than a rigid approach, leaving the individual free to experiment, with different materials and approaches to this traditional subject.

2-5pm on alternate Thursdays 2020
