Experimental Drawing Workshops
Held at the Victoria Institute, Tarrant Street, Arundel, occasional Mondays or Fridays
10.30am – 4.30pm, £75 per session (discount if booked one month in advance)
This will be a one day retreat style workshop, combining my interest in mindfulness and meditation with the creative process. In this workshop you will be invited to draw with your eyes shut, respond to the breath, draw by touch, and listen to your materials. Engaging in the process rather than the product, you can expect to come away feeling relaxed, awakened, and revitalised in your approach to drawing.
All materials will be provided (basic drawing materials, pens, pencils, charcoal etc, as well as paper).
Numbers will be kept to a maximum of 8 to ensure space for this kind of work

Fortnightly Thursdays - 2 – 5pm
Huntingdon Hall, Shoreham by Sea BN43 6WF
2-5pm on alternate Thursdays 10, 24 Jan, 7, 21 Feb, 7, 21 March, 4 April 2019
A new course suitable for all comers. As an introduction to drawing, or a refresher for those with experience, all the sessions are based partly on observation, giving you the skills for improving your ‘eye’. Alongside this, there will be room for experimentation and appreciating that drawings can emerge out of sometimes quite ‘messy’ starting points. This is to help get over the fear of the blank page, the fear that you may ‘go wrong’ – there is no such thing as a wrong drawing: a drawing is a drawing, a line is a line, a mark is a mark.
Each one will be a stand alone session, however they are designed to flow from one to the other, to give you a broad base for developing your drawing skills over the term. All materials are provided.
Fortnightly Thursday general art sessions to encourage a regular practice. Ever popular and usually oversubscribed with a waiting list (now starting another Creative Journeys course in Arundel)
Spring term sessions are 11, 25 Jan, 7, 21 Feb, 7, 21 March, 5 April 2019 This term’s theme is Working from the Figure

Morning Session 9.30am – 1.30pm Cost for seven sessions is £270 to include model fees (£39/session) or £255 if booked before 20 December
Fortnightly (ish) Fridays at the Victoria Institute, Tarrant Street, Arundel 10am – 3pm
18 Jan, 1, 15 Feb, 8, 15 March 2019 Cost £275
This course has run successfully in Brighton, then Shoreham, and now I am bringing it to Arundel. Perfect for that New Year feeling, starting as you mean to go on, why not join this course designed to encourage a regular practice. Starting small, working from the everyday stuff of our lives, you need look no further than what’s in your bag, on your kitchen table, or look out the window for inspiration. Keeping a Visual Diary can be a great way of developing ideas, letting things emerge through daily drawing.
You will be working in sketchbooks for the first term, but not as you know them – working in 2 or 3 different books throughout, in a non-chronological way, you will be given exercises and encouraged to experiment, pouring ink, deconstructing pages, reworking into them, providing an exciting space to work with, and a fascinating record of your creative thought processes. This fortnightly course will be a fantastic start to your creative practice in the New Year!

Personal Histories: Painting Still Life - Monthly Thursdays from 27th September 2018 9.30 – 4.30pm at Seawhite Studio.
Inspired by the exhibition ‘Matisse in his Studio’ at the RA in 2017 and the Frida Kahlo exhibition at the V&A (June – November 2018) both showing the personal belongings that appear in their paintings, we invite students to bring their own objects to the studio. The objects that we have in our home are often symbols of our own personal history – a souvenir, a family heirloom, a postcard, or simply an abandoned coffee mug….each object tells a story.
Autumn Trees Oct 29 – Nov 2 2018
Sheffield Park near Uckfield will be our inspiration for paintings. Famous for its beautiful Autumn colour. The reflections in the large lake double the impact and make the experience all the more magical. The course will start with 2 days working on location in the gardens making rich and exciting studies of the colour, textures and spaces; The final 3 days will be back at the studio in Partridge Green making paintings from these studies.
Taster Days - working from the figure – Fri 1 March, Fri 22 March, Fri 29 March, Fri 7 June 2019
These workshops are more than your average portrait or life drawing class, these sessions will keep you (and sometimes the model) on your toes – taking a line for a walk, multi views, sculpting the form, drawing with your eyes shut, the moving figure – and other exercises.
