Experimental Drawing Workshops

Drawing with Awareness: Drawing, Mindfulness and Meditation

Various locations including The Victoria Institute, Tarrant Street, Arundel and Rackham Old School, near Pulborough
Cost: £75/day (usually 10am – 4.30pm)

One day retreat style workshops, combining my interest in mindfulness and meditation with the creative process. In this workshop you will be invited to draw with your eyes shut, respond to the breath, draw by touch, and listen to your materials. Engaging in the process rather than the product, you can expect to come away feeling relaxed, awakened, and revitalised in your approach to drawing.

Each session exploring a different approach to drawing, or a particular subject, experimenting with materials and ways of seeing. Using charcoal, graphite, pastel, chalk, ink, collage, clay and paint. These workshops will encourage you to relax, play, and enable you to find a personal approach. Suitable for all levels, from beginners to experienced artists – there will be time for one-to-one guidance during the class.

All materials will be provided (basic drawing materials, pens, pencils, charcoal etc, as well as paper).

Numbers will be kept to a maximum of 8 to ensure space for this kind of work

new course suitable for all comers. As an introduction to drawing, or a refresher for those with experience, all the sessions are based partly on observation, giving you the skills for improving your ‘eye’. Alongside this, there will be room for experimentation and appreciating that drawings can emerge out of sometimes quite ‘messy’ starting points. This is to help get over the fear of the blank page, the fear that you may ‘go wrong’ – there is no such thing as a wrong drawing: a drawing is a drawing, a line is a line, a mark is a mark.

Each one will be a stand alone session, however they are designed to flow from one to the other, to give you a broad base for developing your drawing skills over the term. All materials are provided.
