Movement, Marks and Meditation

  • Atelier Brighton, Kings Arches, Brighton (map)

Join me for a one-day session in expressive and experimental drawing using ink and sea water inspired by the energy of the ocean.

Spend a day in our studio making a series of quick small studies taking inspiration from whatever you experience on the beach. Being this close to the sea, you cannot help being affected by the proximity and power of water.

Arrive prepared to take a walk on the beach down to the water's edge, to feel the force of nature with all our senses as we stand between the life of the city and the sea.

Collecting objects along the way we will observe detail and pattern to translate onto the page, or to make your own tools with. Back in the studio you will be guided through simple mindful meditations and movements to awakening your senses and warm the body, before making marks in response to whatever your experience has been.

Using ink and seawater and other natural materials, you will spend time experimenting with marks and materials. This immersive experience aims to map and record your day through making marks, drawing, writing, scratching and scribbling. If you have ever stood on the beach whiling away the time watching the waves roll in, and the cloudscape shifting, this will be the feeling of the day.

Suitable for all.
