Background:
I have practiced yoga for the last 16 years, and began teaching in December 2005 inspired by the work of Vanda Scaravelli and those practicing in a similar open way. Most importantly I have been working with Marc Woolford (www.yogawithmarc.co.uk) for the last 2 years at Natural Bodies, Brighton.
I originally studied Iyengar yoga, at the Buddhist Centre and Natural Health Centre, Brighton and have also experienced other forms of yoga, including Ashtanga, for some years. However, it was truly a revelation to me to find out about the art of un-doing (or non-doing) that is fundamental to Scaravelli-inspired teaching - a lot of my old postural habits, compounded by over-use and repetition when aiming for the "posture", dissolved as I learnt to let go, release, and trust my body to the ground. In doing this practice I have found a freedom in movement, and a corresponding freedom of the mind, which has encouraged me to teach, wanting to share in my joy of this never ending exploration of our relationship with the earth; body, spirit, mind, breath, ground.
I am also an artist, a painter, (see my work here) and in recent years have tried to apply the same principles of letting go when making art-work. I worry less about the product and enjoy the process, the journey of discovery along the way. The painting becomes secondary to my enjoyment. As a result, my paintings seem stronger, more confident as a result. Amazing!
