Explore West Horsley Place through observation, memory and mark-making in this immersive drawing workshop.
Explore drawing as a way of seeing, sensing and remembering in this immersive workshop set within the evocative interiors of West Horsley Place. Beginning with a quiet walk through the house, you’ll make small, observational sketches, tuning into atmosphere, detail and feeling.
Back in the barn studio, these impressions will be transformed into larger, expressive drawings using charcoal and other materials. Guided by gentle meditation and memory-based exercises, you’ll work intuitively—recalling spaces, movements and sensations, and allowing your hand to respond freely on the page.
Through a combination of drawing, writing and poetic prompts, you’ll explore how memory softens, distorts and reshapes what we see, creating images that are as much felt as observed. By the end of the session, you’ll have created one or two powerful drawings, along with new approaches to working from memory and imagination.
